Green Bay, Wis. -- On a night when history was made, the Flames had their 2016 season come to a close with a 71-55 loss to Wright State in the first round of the Horizon League tournament. UIC finished 12-18 overall and 3-15 in the conference.
Senior Ruvanna Campbell made history when she grabbed her 13th and final rebound of the game with one minute left to play. Campbell (15 points, 13 rebounds) concluded her collegiate career with 1,671 points (second all-time in school history) and 1,287 rebounds, breaking the Horizon League's all-time rebounding mark previously held by Christy Greis that stood for 23 years. In addition, Campbell moved into fourth place in the UIC record books with 142 blocked shots and also posted her 70th career double-double effort.
UIC gave a valiant effort but was overwhelmed from the opening tip. The Flames committed seven turnovers in the first quarter helping the third-seeded Raiders sprint out to a sizeable lead that eventually grew to 13 points. Senior Imani Moore (10 pts, 11 rebs) did her best to keep the Flames close, scoring six of her 10 points in the quarter. UIC regained its composure in the second quarter, opening on an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to 21-19 on a layup by Brittany Byrd. Byrd finished with a career high 17 points in 32 minutes of action. After calling timeout Wright State went on a 15-2 run to close the quarter taking a 36-21 lead into halftime.
The second half belonged to Wright State as they pushed their lead to as many as 17 points while maintaining a double-digit margin. The loss to the Raiders was the seventh in a row and 10th in the last 11 games. UIC falls to 6-14 in Horizon League postseason play having bowed out in the opening round of the tournament seven of the last nine years.
