INDIANAPOLIS – A total of 69 UIC student-athletes across 17 sports have been named to the 2016 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

For the second-straight semester, men's cross country/track and field had the most honorees for the Flames with 11. Women's soccer closely followed with a program-best 10 selections, as softball grabbed eight and women's swimming and diving added seven.

Baseball, men's swimming and diving, and women's cross country/track & field each had six representatives, while men's soccer, men's tennis and women's tennis had four honorees apiece. Rounding out the field was women's basketball, women's golf and volleyball all with one selection.

Zach Szczesniak, Alex Bashqawi, Olivia Everin, Haley Kittle, Savannah Soppet, Christopher Cole and Tracy Friel were among the elite after obtaining a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The Horizon League honored 943 student-athletes, with women's soccer leading the conference for the third-straight semester with 127 honorees. Women's and men's cross country/track and field followed with 103 and 92, respectively.

Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
