Offical Release

INDIANAPOLIS – On Wednesday, July 6, the Horizon League Executive Council announced a change in format and unveiled new brackets for its annual event that crowns a conference champion in men's and women's basketball, Motor City Madness. The women's basketball championship will run concurrently with the men's edition from March 3-7, 2017, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

All 10 Horizon League men's basketball programs descended upon Detroit last March to battle it out for a tournament title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament that comes with it. The group will come together once again at historic Joe Louis Arena from March 3-7, 2017, and this time around they will be joined simultaneously by the 10 women's teams. It will be the first time since 1992 that the Horizon Leaguse has held men's and women's tournaments at the same site.

The format for both the 2017 Little Caesars Horizon League Men's and Women's Basketball Championships will be identical with the block of men's games following the women's games each day throughout the week. Motor City Madness begins in earnest on Friday, March 3 with games pitting seed No. 8 vs. No. 9 and seed No. 7 vs. No. 10.

The second round will then be conducted over two days. Winners from the first-round games will advance to play on Saturday, March 4 against either the No. 1 or No. 2 overall seed. On Sunday, March 5, seeds No. 3-6 will be in action for the first time. No. 4 will take on No. 5 and No. 3 will take on No. 6 to complete the second round. Sunday's victors will then move on to the semifinals, held on March 6, to face the winners from the Saturday contests. The 2017 Horizon League Champions will be crowned on Tuesday, March 7.

The men's championship game is slated to be held at 6 p.m. CT on March 7, and it will be televised by either ESPN or ESPN2. All other game times and network information for the men's and women's tournaments will be announced at a later date.

All-session and single-session tickets are scheduled to go on sale Thursday, Dec. 29 at MotorCityMadness.HorizonLeague.com, the Joe Louis Arena Box Office and Ticketmaster.com.

The 2018 edition of Motor City Madness is scheduled to be played at brand new Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit. Click here to view a live web cam of the construction of the new facility, which is scheduled to open in fall 2017.
