Busy Stretch Has UIC Hosting Milwaukee Tuesday

Flames will play third game in six days on Tuesday night

CHICAGO -- UIC will conclude a busy stretch with its third game in six days Tuesday night, when it hosts the Milwaukee Panthers at the UIC Pavilion at 7 p.m. CT.

The Flames (10-8, 3-2 Horizon League) are returning to Chicago after winning back-to-back games in Northeast Ohio over the weekend. The trip began on Thursday night when UIC picked up its first win at Cleveland State's Wolstein Center since Dec. 27, 2006 with a 59-54 triumph. The Flames got 11 points off the bench from both Dominique Matthews and Clint Robinson to lead the team to its second Horizon League win of the season. The bench played a big role once again on Saturday evening as it produced a season-high 51 points in a 92-89 overtime victory. Matthews scored a career-high 21 points against the Penguins, while Kyle Guice added 12 points on four 3-pointers, including two in the decisive overtime period for UIC. The Flames shot 54.8 percent in the second half and overtime, and 61.5 percent from beyond the arc during that same span.

Head coach Steve McClain has seen big returns from the UIC reserves throughout the season. The Flames are averaging 28 points per game off the bench in Horizon League play. The second unit has netted at least 30 points in nine games with seven wins in those contests. UIC has won those seven games by an average margin of victory of 13.6 points.

With the wins over Cleveland State and Youngstown State, 2017 marks the first time since the 2002-03 campaign that the Flames have won their first two road games in Horizon League play. It was the first time that UIC got the best of Cleveland State and Youngstown State in the same season, in their buildings, since the 2005-06 slate. Coupled with a win over Detroit Mercy on Jan. 6, UIC has won three of its first five conference contests for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

Milwaukee (5-13, 1-4 Horizon League) comes to Chicago seeking its second Horizon League victory. The Panthers are paced offensively by sophomore Brock Stull. The guard has led Milwaukee in scoring eight times and he is averaging a team-best 12.6 points per game. Senior guard Cody Wichmann is close behind with an average of 11.8 points per game. The Panthers are led by first-year head coach LaVall Jordan. No stranger to the Horizon League, Jordan played for the Butler Bulldogs when the school was a member of the conference, which was known as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.
