Rematch Against Valpo on Deck for UIC

Flames seeking first four-game win streak since 2012

CHICAGO -- Following a brief return home on Tuesday, Jan. 17, when UIC defeated the Milwaukee Panthers, the Flames will be back on the road this weekend to play the Valparaiso Crusaders on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. The contest at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Ind., will be televised by the American Sports Network and carried locally by Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

UIC (11-8, 4-2 Horizon League) has won three consecutive games for the first time under second-year head coach Steve McClain. The Flames have also claimed victory in three straight road games for the first time since since Feb. 15 - March 3, 2009. Last weekend UIC defeated Cleveland State (Jan. 12) and Youngstown State (Jan. 14) during its first two road games in Horizon League play. The last time that the Flames won at least their first three conference road games came during the 2002-03 campaign. That squad defeated Green Bay, Detroit, Youngstown State and Wright State away from the UIC Pavilion en route to a 12-4 Horizon League record and an eventual NIT bid.

After winning back-to-back games in Northeast Ohio over the weekend, UIC returned home to take down the Milwaukee Panthers on Tuesday night, 71-57. The Flames scored 18 points off 12 Panther turnovers, and shot nearly 54 percent in the the second half. Tai Odiase registered his fourth double-double of the season on the strength of 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He also blocked six shots against Milwaukee, marking the third time this season that Odiase notched at least six blocks in a game. A total of four UIC players scored in double figures, including Godwin Boahen. Boahen scored 16 points with the help of a career-high four 3-pointers.

Though UIC has won three games in a row, it's Valparaiso (15-4, 5-1 Horizon League) that enters the weekend with the longest active winning streak in the Horizon League at four games. The Crusaders moved into a tie for first place atop the conference standings on Monday night by knocking off Green Bay, 80-56. Valpo senior Alec Peters became the program's all-time leading rebounder during the game.

Sunday's game will air on the American Sports Network. Locally, it will be carried on Comcast SportsNet Chicago. It will also be streamed on ESPN3 and available on the WatchESPN app. Dave Armstrong will deliver the play-by-play and Rich Zvosec will provide his analysis of the contest.
