SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The UIC women's gymnastics team posted a season-high 193.250 team score on Friday night at the Utah Quad. Host Utah took the top spot (197.625), while Denver (196.875) and Boise State (196.225) rounded out the top three.
"Tonight was a great experience," co-head coach
Peter Jansson said. "The girls did very well and represented UIC in a first-class manner. Going against three top-ten teams is a little tough but it was a great experience and the girls did very well."
UIC started the night on floor, led by
Mikailla Northern's 9.725.
Daniela Maciel recorded a 9.675 on the event, while
Amelia Rafferty earned a 9.650.
The Flames moved on to vault, where Northern mirrored her floor score to take the top spot for UIC.
Nikki Woodruff followed closely with a 9.700, and
Toni Alicke brought in a 9.625.
The Flames earned their highest team total of the season on bars, recording a 48.650.
Riley Cholod led with a 9.800 to tie for 13th.
Katie Snyder and
Jenna Squillo each earned a 9.725, followed by
Serena Baker's 9.700.
Northern tied for 13th to lead UIC on beam, earning a 9.775. Squillo brought in a 9.725 on the apparatus, while Maciel's 9.625 rounded out the Flames' top three.
Northern earned a season-best 38.900 in all-around competition, earning a 9.675 or higher on all four events.
"Mickey had a great day today and so did Toni," Jansson continued. "We need to have a couple of people step up on vault, but we have a pretty complete team heading into our conference schedule."
UIC will wrap up its season-opening road trip with its first Midwest Independent Conference meet against Illinois State on Sunday, Jan. 29.
