INDIANAPOLIS -- Terri Bender (Sr., Milwaukee, Wisc.) and Catera Etheridge (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) were named to the 2016 Horizon League Fall Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Friday, Jan. 27.  A total of 71 UIC student-athletes from across 17 sports were represented on the honor roll.

For the third semester in a row, the men's cross country and track & field program paced the department with 12 honorees. The women's soccer program set a program record with 11 selections, while baseball, softball and women's cross country and track & field garnered seven spots on the Honor Roll. Men's swimming and diving was just behind with six student-athletes recognized, while men's tennis and women's swimming and diving each collected four nods. Women's tennis, volleyball and men's soccer each have three representatives, and women's basketball and women's golf had a pair each.

Six Flames stood out among their peers by posting a spotless grade-point average of 4.0. Alex Bashqawi, Zach Szczesniak and Kevin Zigenhorn, all of the men's cross country team, achieved the feat, as did Savannah Soppet and Jasmine Willis from the softball program. Senior women's golfer Shannon Menard also achieved a 4.0 GPA.

In total, 978 student-athletes from across the 10 full-time Horizon League member institutions were named to the 2016 Fall Honor Roll. Belmont, which competes only in men's soccer, also added six to bring the grand total to 984. Women's soccer boasts the most honorees with 139, just ahead of women's cross country and track & Field (134).

Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
