CHICAGO – UIC (1-1) miscues proved to be costly Thursday night as Jackson State (2-1) ran away with a 76-63 win inside the UIC Pavilion after converting 44 points off turnovers.

A highlight in the Flames' young season came from senior
Gabryelle Johnson as she registered the first double-double of her UIC career with 13 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.
Brittany Byrd built a game-high 20 points as
Taylor Toney was the only other Flame to score in double figures.

First Half Highlights
- After Jackson State got off to a 4-0 start in the opening two minutes, the Flames went on a 14-0 run after going 6-of-7 from the field that featured a team-best six points from Toney.
- The Tigers went on a 14-0 run of their own after shooting 0-for-5 during UIC's spree as they climbed to an 18-14 lead over the Flames with the help of three three-pointers from Derica Wiggins.
- Both teams endured a slow start to the second quarter before going tick-for-tick, knotting the score four times before Jackson State hit consecutive shots and took the decisive 28-24 lead with 3:59 to play. The Tigers would drive a 13-4 run into halftime for the 38-27 advantage.

Second Half Highlights
- UIC netted the first three baskets of the second half on layups from Byrd and Teodora Zagorac (2) but Jackson State responded with back-to-back field goals to maintain a 42-33 lead.
- A three-pointer from Byrd with 5:13 on the clock in the third quarter brought the Flames within six but the Tigers then scored six unanswered to stretch the lead to 50-38.
- Following a pair of free throws for Byrd and a three from Toney, Jackson State took its largest lead of the game (20) with use of a 13-0 run to go up 63-43, as UIC had just one shot attempt during that span.
- The Flames held the Tigers without a basket for close to four minutes while they cut nine points off their deficit with a balanced attack and five points from Gabryelle Johnson.
- The possession was in favor of UIC in the final three minutes, however the Flames could not come up with the shots they needed, missing three from the field and four from the charity stripe.

- Johnson's double-double came after she picked up 10-plus rebounds for the second straight game with her first double-digit point output of the year. She doubled the next highest rebound total from Byrd (7).
- The Flames shot 41.5% overall with their best quarter coming in the first when they produced a 53.8 shot-percentage. The five starters (Johnson, Zagorac, Catera Etheridge, Byrd and Toney) made all but one of the team's 22 field goals.
- UIC worked the board and had 40 of its points come in the paint.
- Byrd had a team-best six field goals while she went 7-of-10 in free throws. She additionally added a three-pointer along with Toney.
- The Tigers scored 42 of their points off the bench, in addition to 44 off the Flames' 33 turnovers, and had 20 come off the fast break.
