Flames Host Indiana State Thursday Night

Teams Meet In First Night Game of Season

The UIC Flames (2-2) will play their first night game of the season Thursday, when Indiana State (2-4) visits the UIC Pavilion.  Tipoff will be at 7:00.  With a win, the Flames would win three games in November for the fifth time in Regina Miller's seven years at the helm, and win three games in any calendar month for the first time since December 2015.

Starting Five
  • Taylor Toney is the Flames' leader in scoring and assists, and she is in the Horizon League's top 10 in scoring (5th, 16.8 ppg), rebounding (10th, 7.3 rpg), assists (6th, 3.3 apg), steals (1st, 2.8 spg), assist to turnover ratio (8th, 0.9), and free throw percentage (7th, .800).
  • Gabryelle Johnson leads the conference in rebounding at 10 boards per game.  She ranks seventh in the nation with 5.0 offensive rebounds per contest.  She grabbed a career high 18 rebounds, with 10 on the offensive glass, against Jackson State earlier this season.
  • Teodora Zagorac missed more than one shot in any game for the first time this season against Santa Clara, but is still shooting .632 on the year, good for second place in the Horizon League.
  • The Flames rank 30th in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 54.5 points per game.  They are holding their opponents to a .351 shooting percentage and have forced more turnovers than they have allowed assists in every game of the season.
  • The starting five of Catera Etheridge, Brittany Byrd, Taylor Toney, Gabryelle Johnson, and Teodora Zagorac has taken the floor in every game of the season.  This stability is in contrast to last season, which saw 13 different starting lineups.
Last Time Out
  • UIC continued to alternate wins and losses in a 45-36 setback to Santa Clara on Saturday.
  • Three Flames (Johnson, Zagorac, Byrd) had eight points apiece to share team high honors.
  • Taylor Toney led the squad in rebounds and assists.
  • UIC trailed by as many as 10, but rallied to cut the deficit to two in the fourth quarter when Brittany Byrd made consecutive driving layups.  But Santa Clara would hold the Flames scoreless for 5:30 while making two three-pointers of their own to seal the game.
  • Though the Flames held Santa Clara to just 28.6% shooting, they found it equally difficult to make shots of their own, connecting on a season low 25.9%.
Sycamore Sightings
  • Indiana State defeated Missouri S&T, 84-51 Tuesday night.  That was the Sycamores' second win of the season and the first time they scored more than 59 points in a game.
  • Tierra Webb led Indiana State with 16 points.  Four additional Sycamores scored in double figures, and Wendi Bibbins had 10 rebounds.  Twelve players saw action, and none played more than 21 minutes.
  • Ashley Taia leads the team with 12.0 points per game, while Ashli O'Neal averages 10.0.
  • Over one third of the team's total field goal attempts this season has come from three point distance.  They hoist 22 threes per game and make them at a .348 clip.
  • Indiana State leads the all-time series, 10-2.  They have won three straight meetings dating back to 1987.
