CHICAGO -- Ed McQuillan, a former head men's basketball coach at UIC, passed away on Monday, Nov. 27. He was 74 years old.

McQuillan succeeded Tom Russo and was at the helm of the men's basketball team at UIC from 1972-77, winning 38 games during that span, which was prior to the Division I era. He went on to work as an extremely successful high school in Chicago, winning more than 150 games at Mount Carmel and the 1985 IHSA Class AA state championship.  In addition to UIC and Mount Carmel, McQuillan also coached the game he loved at Illinois Institute of Technology and St. Xavier University.

McQuillan was devoted husband to Mary (Riordan) and the late Nancy (Ryan). He was also a proud father of five, stepfather of six, grandfather of 23 and uncle of many nieces and nephews.

McQuillan's life was celebrated at St. Louis de Montfort Church in Oak Lawn, Ill. on Friday, Dec. 1.
