UIC Set for CBI Semifinal at Coastal Carolina

Flames hit the road for the first time in the postseason event

CONWAY, S.C. -- UIC's memorable march through the postseason continues on Wednesday, March 22, when the Flames visit the Palmetto State to continue the College Basketball Invitational presented by FIVE FOUR with a semifinal-round game against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

The Flames (17-18) have reached this point by winning back-to-back games at the UIC Pavilion on March 16 and March 20. In first-round action, UIC led Stony Brook by as many as 19 points before withstanding a furious comeback attempt from the Seawolves to snag a two-point win. Dominique Matthews scored a game-high 21 points for UIC with a career-best six 3-pointers. For a full recap of the first victory, please click here.

Head coach Steve McClain's squad was back home Monday night to entertain the George Washington Colonials. The Flames moved the ball as well as they had at any point all season, accounting for a season-high 24 assists on 29 made field goals. It was the fourth time in CBI history that a team posted 24 helpers in a game, joining Radford (2014) and Oregon State (2012). Tarkus Ferguson dished out a career-high 12 assists for UIC to set a career high and match the CBI's single game record (Bubba Walter, Ohio, 3/18/08). The Belleville, Ill., native also posted a team-high 10 rebounds as he secured his seventh double-double of the season, and first with assists and rebounds. Coastal Carolina (18-17) got off to a slow start against Loyola (Md.) Monday night, falling behind 18-2 at the start of the game. The Chants closed the gap to two at the half before taking control in the second half for a nine-point win. In the first round, CCU defeated Hampton, 83-67, at home. The game was much closer than the final score indicated as the Chants hit 11-of-12 field goals over the last 6:17 to turn a one-point lead into a 16-point victory.

A live stream of Wednesday's game will be available on CCU's web site, www.GoCCUsports.com. The Voice of the Flames, Jonathan Hood, will also be courtside to provide the hometown call on UICFlames.com.
