Flames Return to the Road to Battle Wright State

Tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (7-10, 0-6 HL) will hit the road after playing its last three games at home to face off with Wright State (14-4, 5-1 HL) on Friday, Jan. 19. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT in the Nutter Center.

The Flames continue to seek their first Horizon League win, while also looking for its first win against the Raiders since 2013. UIC is also without a win on the road since Nov. 21.

Starting Five
  • Taylor Toney continues to see offensive success for the Flames, putting in a team-high 16 points on Monday (Jan. 15) as UIC's leading scorer against Milwaukee. It was her third-straight game in double figures.
  • Tylah Lampley was also in double digits for the third time in four games, with 12 points against the Panthers, and also blocked three. The sophomore is third in the Horizon League in blocks, averaging 1.2 per game.
  • Gabryelle Johnson grabbed six offensive rebounds for the Flames against Milwaukee, and is second in the Horizon League in the category. She has just one fewer offensive board (62) than defensive (63).
  • Four players (Johnson, Byrd, Toney, Lampley) have at least one game with five offensive rebounds.  The Flames have out-offensive rebounded their opponents in 15 of 17 games, including Monday's loss to Milwaukee, with the Flames out-offensive rebounding the Panthers by a margin of 12-9.
  • The Flames are second in the Horizon League in turnovers forced.  They have had a positive turnover differential in nine of 17 games and have capitalized by going 6-3 in those contests. 
Last Time Out
  • UIC was unable to hold off Milwaukee at home on Monday, falling by a final score of 76-53.
  • The Flames were in contention at the half, trailing by just four, but shooting woes in the second half led to UIC's demise.
  • The Flames shot 50 percent in the first half, while making just 24 percent of all shots in the second to lead to a 34.4 percent shooting mark in the game in its entirety.
  • UIC also committed 18 turnovers, which led to 26 Panther points, while Milwuakee committed 16 turnovers, which thte Flames turned into 17 points.
Revealing the Raiders
  • Wright State has won five straight after posting a 73-50 win against Youngstown State on Monday.
  • The Raiders' leading scorer Chelsea Welch put up a game-high 23 points as one of four WSU players to score in the double-digits. Emily Vogelpohl posted a double-double for the Raiders, collecting 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Lexi Smith also grabbed a double-double of her own with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The Raiders are an impressive 5-1 in Horizon League play so far, putting them in a three-way tie for first alongside Green Bay and IUPUI. Wright State has the longest standing win streak in the League at five, and are 8-2 across their last ten.
  • The Raiders lead the Horizon League in offense by a longshot, averaging 77.6 points per game, over five points more than the next contender, IUPUI, which averages 72.2 points per game.
  • They are also leaders in rebounding offense (42.5 per game average), assists (15.2 per game) and turnover margin (+6.3).
