Flames Gear Up for Final Regular Season Road Trip

UIC will face the Titans on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (7-17, 0-13 HL) will hit the road for its final time in the regular season, starting with a toss up against Detroit Mercy (1-23, 1-12 HL) on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. CT.

Starting Five
  • Tia Tedford reappeared in the starting five on Saturday (Feb. 10) against Youngstown State. It was her first start since Jan. 13, and she ended the afternoon pacing the Flames with a career-high 15 points including a trio of three-pointers.
  • Jada Nneji also stepped up big for the Flames on Saturday, posting a career-high and team-best 11 rebounds, while also tacking on five points, two helpers, two blocks and a pair of steals.
  • Taylor Toney was also in double figures against the Penguins, netting 13 points while also stealing four. It was the junior's 20th double-digit effort of the season.
  • Catera Etheridge has matched her career-best five assists in two of the last three games. She also added seven points and five rebounds to her offensive efforts against Youngstown State.
  • Gabryelle Johnson continues to be strong on the boards for the Flames after grabbing seven rebounds on Saturday, and is in the Horizon League's top ten in rebounding in eighth, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. She is also third in the League in offensive rebounds with a 3.2 per game average.
Last Time Out
  • UIC was defeated 71-52 at home on Saturday against Youngstown State. The Flames were highlighted by strong performances from their freshmen, including a team-high and career-high 15-point performance by Tia Tedford.
  • Jada Nneji's 11-rebound showing allowed her to become just the fourth Flame this season to reach double figures in rebounding.
  • The Flames committed a season-low seven turnovers as a team, while forcing 15 for the Penguins. The 15 YSU miscues were converted into 17 points for the Flames, while the Penguins were only able to net five off UIC turnovers.
  • The Penguins out-rebounded the Flames 49-34, and Youngstown State had 16 offensive boards to UIC's 13, but the two teams were even in second chance points with 13 apiece.
  • The Flames made more attempts than their opponent (64-58), but the Penguins were more efficient, making 43.1 percent of all shots while UIC made 31.3 percent from the field.
Details on Detroit Mercy
  • Detroit Mercy came up short in the final seconds of play on Saturday (Feb. 10) against Northern Kentucky, 64-60.
  • The Titans tallied 11 three-pointers in the contest, and were led by Lexey Tobel and Brianne Cohen's 14-point performances. Nicole Urbanick and Anja Marinkovic were just shy of double-digits with nine points apiece, while Gracie Roberts handed out a career-high seven helpers in the loss.
  • Saturday's game made Tobel the first Titan freshman since 2014-15 to total 200 points and 100 rebounds in her freshman campaign for the Titans.
  • Detroit Mercy has sank 10 or more three-pointers, and the Titans are third in the Horizon League in three-point field goals made, averaging 6.8 triples per game.
  • Detroit Mercy is also a strong blocking team, owning the top spot in the conference as a team with a 3.9 blocks per game average.
Last Time vs. Detroit Mercy
  • The Flames are seeking redemption after being edged by the Titans at home on Jan. 13, 61-58.
  • Taylor Toney had her second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 25 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds.
  • Tia Tedford made her first start of the season for the Flames. The Detroit, Mich., native chipped in with five points, a game-high four assists and two steals in 24 minutes of action.
  • UIC outscored Detroit Mercy 36-24 in the second half.
  • Both teams scored 30 points in the paint and 18 points off turnovers. Detroit Mercy's bench had a sizable edge though, outscoring UIC's, 18-8.
  • The Flames and Titans each pulled down 34 rebounds, but got there in different ways. UIC owned the offensive glass, 17-5. Detroit Mercy dominated the defensive end to the tune of 29-17.
