CHICAGO - The UIC women's basketball team (7-19, 0-15 HL) will battle the Horizon League's top team, No. 19/15 Green Bay (23-3, 13-2 HL), on Monday, Feb. 19 to start its final homestand of the regular season. The two teams will face off at 4 p.m. CT inside the UIC Pavilion.
Prior to tipoff, the Flames will be honoring all-time great
Terri Bender as the all-time career assists leader. Bender owns 504 assists in a Flames jersey, and ended her career as runner up all-time in steals and was also a two-time Horizon League Defensive Team selection.Â
Starting Five
- The Flames freshmen had a strong showing on Saturday (Feb. 17) at Oakland, with all five posting at least one personal-best, and four out of five posting career-highs in scoring.
- Freshman Tia Tedford matched her personal bests in scoring (15) and rebounds (4), steals (7), field goal attempts (15) and free throw attempts (6).
- Freshman Abreanna Lake handed out a career-high nine assists at Oakland, making her the first Flame to record eight or more assists since all-time assists leader Terri Bender had eight on Feb. 4, 2017 against Youngstown State. In addition to her personal mark in assists, Lake also posted career-highs in points (8), steals (3), field goal attempts (8) and field goals made (4).
- Jada Nneji earned her first double-digit scoring performance of the season at Oakland with 10 points. She also tallied eight rebounds, six of which were offensive.
- Kara Wilson also had a career day at Oakland with personal bests in scoring (6), rebounds (7) and assists (4).
Last Time Out
- UIC fought hard against a surging Oakland offense, coming up short 95-78 on Saturday afternoon in Michigan.
- The Flames posted 30 points in the fourth quarter, but were outscored in the first three periods, as Oakland posted 20-plus points in all four frames.
- UIC recorded its second-highest point total of the season (78), while also posting a season-high 21 steals.
- The Flames had four scorers in double-digits, led by Gabryelle Johnson and Taylor Toney notching 16 points apiece.
Phoenix Facts
- No. 19/15 Green Bay suffered just its third loss of the season on Thursday (Feb. 15) against Cleveland State, and bounced back with a convincing 67-42 defeat of Youngstown State on Saturday (Feb. 17).
- Green Bay's Jessica Lindstrom reeled in her 36th double-double of her career against the Penguins, tallying 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Phoenix to become the all-time leader in double-doubles in a career during Green Bay's Division I era.
- Green Bay owns the top spot in the conference, and is the sole team in the Horizon League that is nationally ranked.
- The Phoenix own one of the top defenses in the nation, ranking No. 1 in scoring defense and second in the nation in field-goal percentage defense.
- In the Horizon League, the Phoenix sit atop the conference in several categories including scoring defense, scoring margin, field-goal percentage defense and rebounding defense, among others.
