CHICAGO -- UIC sophomore
Tarkus Ferguson was named the
College Sports Madness Horizon League Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday, Feb. 5. Ferguson helped the Flames win road games at Milwaukee, Oakland and Detroit Mercy, while extended their overall streak to six consecutive games.
Ferguson led UIC in both scoring and rebounding 8.7 rpg with 15.7 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game last week. as the Flames extended their winning streak to a Horizon League-best six consecutive games.
He opened the week by erupting for a season-high 19 points in an 18-point win at Milwaukee on Jan. 29. Fergsuon made a season-high eight free throws (8-of-8), adding six rebounds and a game-high five assists against the Panthers. On Friday night at Oakland the sophomore finished one rebound shy of a double-double behind 13 points and nine rebounds. Ferguson also paced all players with a game-high seven assists against the Golden Grizzlies. Ferguson got the double-double eventually by scoring 15 points and grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds at Detroit Mercy for his second double-double of the season, and the ninth of his career.
The Belleville, Ill., native matched a career high with three 3-pointers against both Milwaukee and Detroit Mercy, while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc in the three wins. Finally, he went to the free throw line a team-high 19 times in the three games and made 17 shots from the stripe (89.5 percent).
Ferguson and the Flames will play five of their next six games at the UIC Pavilion beginning on Thursday, Feb. 8, when they welcome the Youngstown State Penguins at 7 p.m. CT.
