@UIC_WBasketball Brief Homestand Ends with Youngstown State

Flames will battle Penguins on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (7-16, 0-12 HL) will wrap up its brief two-game homestand on Saturday, Feb. 10 with a game against Youngstown State (11-13, 7-6 HL). The matchup is slated for a 2 p.m. CT start.

Starting Five
  • Taylor Toney tabbed her fourth double-double of the season on Thursday against Cleveland State, pouring in 12 points alongside a career-high 14 rebounds and four assists.
  • Jada Nneji had a solid showing against the Vikings, matching her career-best seven points while also adding three offensive boards.
  • Tia Tedford was back in the lineup on Thursday for the first time since Jan. 13 and contributed a career-high four steals on the defense.
  • UIC is second in the Horizon League in offensive rebounds with 14.6 per game.  Gabryelle Johnson leads the team with 75, and has nearly as many offensive rebounds as defensive (82).  Four players (Johnson, Byrd, Toney, Lampley) have at least one game with five offensive rebounds, and the Flames have out-offensive rebounded their opponents in 19 of 23 games, including Thrusday's game against Cleveland State.
  • The Flames are second in the Horizon League in turnovers forced.  They have had a positive turnover differential in 11 of 23 games and have capitalized by going 6-5 in those contests.
Last Time Out
  • UIC took a 64-42 loss to Cleveland State at home in the UIC Pavilion Thursday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Flames ended the game with a positive turnover differential (22-20), and were able to outscore the Vikings in the paint (24-20).
  • UIC also notched 14 offensive rebounds to CSU's five, and was able to convert them into eight points, while the Vikings recorded just four second-chance points.
  • The Vikings held UIC to a season-low 25 percent field goal percentage, while making 41.3 percent of all shots on their own.
  • Tylah Lampley was back in the starting five and added six points alongside a pair of defensive boards.
  • Teodora Zagorac put in another solid effort on the boards for UIC, recording seven rebounds.
Presenting the Penguins
  • Youngstown State took down second-place IUPUI on Thursday (Feb. 8) in Indianapolis for its fifth win in six games and its fourth-consecutive road victory. The 70-67 Penguin victory saw 20 lead changes between the two teams, and allowed Youngstown to redeem itself from a 65-43 loss to the Jags earlier in the season.
  • Indiya Benjamin became the program's all-time assists leader, handing out 10 helpers while also tacking on 17 points, 15 of which came in the second half.
  • The Penguins' new all-time assists leader, Indiya Benjamin, also leads the conference in assists, averaging 5.2 helpers per game.
  • Their two top shooters in Sarah Cash and Mary Dunn rank third and fourth, respectivley, in the League in field goal percentage. Cash is shooting .571 on the season while Dunn is .555 from the field.
