In the regular season finale, UIC scored 194.775 points – their second highest total of the season, and their highest at home – in a dual meet with New Hampshire at UIC Pavilion Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats posted 195.700 to take the team win.
"New Hampshire is a very good team, and we hung with them all day," co-head coach
Peter Jansson said, noting that the Wildcats came within 0.375 of #9 Kentucky last week. "We need a little more polish and consistency in our routines, but we showed we can hang with the toughest teams in the country."
Flames seniors
Riley Cholod,
Amelia Rafferty, and
Katie Snyder competed in the final home meet of their careers and were honored after the conclusion of competition. Cholod tied her career high on the bars, and Snyder tied her season high. Rafferty performed for the first time this season with an exhibition on the floor.
Rotation 1 – Vault
- Mikailla Northern paced UIC and tied for second with a 9.825. She has scored at least that high in three straight meets.
- Riley Mahoney and Kayla Baddeley tied for seventh as each scored 9.725.
- Maddie Nowak and Ashley Albrecht were right behind them, tying for ninth with 9.675.
- New Hampshire had five of the top six scores and outscored the Flames by 0.600 on the vault.
Rotation 2 – Bars
- Riley Cholod tied her career high, scoring 9.850. She finished second behind a nearly perfect performance by UNH's Danielle Mulligan.
- Katie Snyder tied her season high and finished fourth with a 9.800.
- Toni Alicke, Serena Baker, and Northern gave UIC a strong team showing, as each scored 9.775. The Flames and Wildcats finished in a deadlock on the bars at 48.975 each.
- "Our vault and bars performances were very, very strong," Jansson observed.
Rotation 3 – Beam
- Northern led the team for the third time of the meet with a score of 9.750. She was third overall.
- Baddeley was close behind with a 9.700, in a tie for fifth.
- Dani Maciel and Albrech each had a 9.650 or higher.
- The Wildcats padded their team lead by outscoring UIC on the beam, 48.700-48.350.
- "Scoring was a little tighter on the beam but our performances were still solid," Jansson said.
Rotation 4 – Floor
- Northern's floor exercise was the highlight of the day. She scored 9.900, tying her career high, and taking first.
- Albrecht finished her freshman campaign with a season high 9.775. Alicke had the same score, which was a season high. The two tied for fifth.
- Abby Hasanov and Maciel rounded out the Flames' lineup, helping the team come within 0.175 of UNH in the floor totals. "We finished on the floor very well," Jansson said.
All-Around
- Northern set a season high, totaling 39.250, and took first place.
- Albrecht returned to the all-around competition for the first time in five meets, and set a season high with a total of 38.850. She was second overall.
Up Next
- The Flames will travel to Lindenwood, Mo. for the Midwest Independent Conference Championships.
- The MIC meet will start Friday at 6:00 pm.
- "We have a great shot at conference next week," Jansson said, "and it feels really good to be hitting our stride at this point of the season. Even beyond that and looking ahead to next year, I feel we have established a good reputation as a team this year that will help us in 2019."
