Homewood, Ill. -The UIC men's tennis team rebounded from a morning loss to Northern Iowa to defeat IUPUI, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Center.
"Against Northern Iowa, I thought we played tough, but they were just tougher," remarked head coach Chuck Cunningham. "The second match was one of best matches of the season. IUPUI was a tough team and there were several occasions where we could have stumbled and lost the match. We had a man injured and Scott (Greenwald)had to do everything he could just to finish his match. That is the match I want my players to remember later in the season."
The IUPUI match used the seven-point format, where all singles matches are worth one point and the team that wins claims two of the three doubles confrontations wins the last point.
The Flames fell behind early as the Jaguars took the doubles point by sweeping the three contests.
UIC rallied in singles play, though, taking four of the first five matches to claim the victory. Angel Ochoa's single match was stopped since the outcome was already decided.
Karl Morgan continued his singles winning streak, capturing his fifth and sixth consecutive contests. The freshman leads the team with 16 wins and is now just three away from tying the single season record of 19.
Morgan wasn't the only Flame to tally a win on Saturday. Nick Bodmer, Bill Schmidt and Scott Greenwald all won their singles matches versus IUPUI.
