Men's Gymnastics Downed By No.4 Illinois

March 9, 2002

Champaign, Ill. - For the University of Illinois at Chicago athletic teams, the journey down I-57 is always a challenging one.

For the UIC men's gymnastics team, the hurdle seems even higher for its trip to Champaign, as the Illinois men's squad is ranked No.4 in the nation and is a legitimate contender for the National Championship.

Illinois out-matched the Flames on Saturday afternoon, winning the competition 214.7-203.4.

The Illini held the Flames without a team event win or individual event win on the afternoon, on their way to a season-best score.

Freshman Neil Faustino won the all-around competition for UIC scoring 50.8 points, while Anthony Cirullo came back from injury to place third on floor with a score of 8.750.

Ambrose Jackson continued his positive ways, taking second on high bar with a score of 9.050.

The men's gymnastics team will hit the gym again next Friday evening at 7:00 PM, as the Flames host Iowa on Senior Night.
