Men's Gymnastics Signs Enke To National Letter Of Intent

Nov. 26, 2003

Chicago, Ill.- University of Illinois at Chicago Head Men's Gymnastics Coach "CJ" Johnson announced on Wednesday that Jason Enke (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Flames next season.

Enke, who competes for Lyons Township and the Midwest Academy of Gymnastics club team under coaches Kevin Chope and Sam Zeman, was spectacular at the 2003 IHSA state championships. As a junior he won the pommel horse, parallel bars and horizontal bar events while earning a first-place draw with Glenbrook North's Mike Boyer in the floor exercise to finish second in the all-around finals.

Johnson believes he has landed a top performer whose talents, surprisingly, went unnoticed by other schools.

"He has excellent skills that some have overlooked," Johnson said.

Enke will major in kinesiology when he enrolls next fall.
