Chicago, Ill. - At the conclusion of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Men's Gymnastics Championships, UIC assistant coach Charlie Nelson was named the ECAC Assistant Coach of the Year.

Working under head coach CJ Johnson, Nelson has made a large impact on the Flames program.

Nelson joined the UIC coaching staff as a student assistant following a standout career with the Flames where he was an outstanding ring man and captain of the 1999 squad.

Now, following his fourth season as an assistant coach, Nelson was recognized for his efforts.

Along with coaching with the Flames, the Oak Park, Illinois native is finishing his Master's Degree from UIC in History and plans on teaching at the high school level. Nelson is also active with the Boy Scouts of America and is an esteemed Eagle Scout, himself.
