Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's tennis team opened their home outdoor slate with a bang on Monday afternoon, downing city rival Chicago State in an easy 6-1 victory at the UIC Outdoor Courts.
UIC (5-9) took four of five singles matches and won one other by default en route to a season sweep of the Cougars, who lost to the Flames for the second time this season.
UIC downed CSU by the same 6-1 score this past fall on October 8, 2003.
The Flames were led by John Cincola, who took an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Amit Wadhwani at No. 2 singles and teamed with Pat Zufan to take an 8-0 doubles match at the top spot over Wadhwani and Dejan Auramouic.
Artsem Burmistrau's dominance at No. 1 singles continued with a 6-2, 6-1 win over a tough Danai Samuriwo.
Yevgen Ryeznik chipped in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jose Flores, while Sean Kreymborg won a 6-0, 6-0 match over Jason Coleman.
Paul Glendenning's four-match winning streak was snapped by Auramouic at the No. 3 spot in a back-and-forth 6-3, 6-4 match.
The Flames travel to DeKalb, Ill. tomorrow to take on Northern Illinois at 3 p.m.
