Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's gymnastics team will be well-represented at the 2006 National Collegiate Men's Gymnastics Championships in Norman, Oklahoma, this April, as 10 Flames were selected to compete by the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Committee.
Tim Morrison heads the back as the team's all-around competitor. The junior earned the nod with a 49.885 qualifying score. Freshman Alex Kadar qualified for three events, whil Nick Stavros and Jeffrey Bill picked up two nods apiece.
Stavros, the two-time Eastern College Athletic Conference pommel horse champion and reigning ECAC still rings title holder, will compete on both pommel horse and still rings at the NCAA Championships.
Bill and Kadar will cap their rookie campaigns with performances in both the floor exercise and vault at the national meet, while Kadar also received a berth on parallel bars.
Senior Andrew Krueger was selected to compete on floor exercise, while fellow senior and ECAC pommel horse co-champion Philip Goss will compete on pommel. Another senior, Eric Novick, will take part in the still rings competition.
Three other freshmen were selected as Bobby Solomon (vault), Nick Persino (high bar) and Kevin Baune (high bar) will make their first NCAA Championship trip.
The national qualifier, which consists of two pre-qualifying sessions, will take place April 6 at the Lloyd Noble Center at the University of Oklahoma.
The top three all-around competitors and the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-arounder will advance from each pre-qualifying sessions to the finals session, which takes place from April 7-8 at the Lloyd Noble Center.
