Chicago, Ill.- Solid performances by senior all-arounder Tim Morrison and the Flames' crop of young talent paced the UIC men's gymnastics meet at the 37th annual Windy City Invitational at the UIC Physical Education Building on Saturday night.
In what is one of the longest-running and most prestigious meets in the NCAA, UIC held its own against some of the nation's best. The Flames hosted nationally-ranked Big Ten powers Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa in another classic encounter to open the regular season.
Michigan won the meet with a 212.750, beating out second place Illinois (209.750) and third place Ohio State (206.500). Minnesota came in fourth with a 205.650, followed by Iowa (198.400) and UIC (196.150).
Morrison took sixth in the all-around with a total tally of 48.050, turning in a team-best score of 8.6 on high bar. Sophomore Anthony May posted an eighth-place all-around score of 47.700, leading UIC on pommel horse (8.050) as well.
Jeffrey Bill led the Flames on vault (8.8), while rookie Nikolai Korepanov placed an impressive eighth on still rings with a team-best 9.0.
Korepanov and Kevin Baune also shared team-leading honors on parallel bars as each scored an 8.850 in the event.
Wes Haagensen of Illinois won the prestigious Windy City Invitational all-around title with a score of 52.700.
UIC is back in action on January 27th, facing Iowa in Iowa City at 2:00 p.m.
