Chicago, Ill.- University of Illinois at Chicago Athletic Director Jim Schmidt announced on Monday, October 13, the hiring of Alice Tym as Associate Athletic Director/Director of Advancement for the Flames.
Tym will lead all university fundraising initiatives for the UIC Athletic Department, soliciting and stewarding major donors, engaging alumni, faculty and staff to build campus and department affinity, and working with team coaches, staff and boosters on sport-specific athletic giving ventures.
"We are excited to have someone like Alice join the Flames family," Schmidt said. "Her experience and talents will lend themselves greatly to our efforts in advancement as we continue our Brilliant Futures campaign here at UIC."
Tym brings to UIC a wealth of experience in college athletic administration, most recently spending the last four years as senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Colgate University in Hampton, N.Y.
A key cog in day-to-day operations for the Raiders, Tym was charged with overseeing the offices of corporate sales, marketing and promotions and personnel management for the department. She also served as the administrative liaison for several Colgate athletic programs and was on the Patriot League's committees for sports management, athletic administration and women's soccer. Tym was recently appointed to serve as a member of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Committee.
Prior to here appointment at Colgate, Tym was the assistant director of marketing and corporate sales at San Diego State University, where she helped spearhead a campaign that led to a 59 percent increase in average attendance for football in 2004, the third-largest increase in the nation, while also bringing in new sponsors to help raise total sales revenue over $1.3 million.
Tym is no stranger to Chicago, spending four years (1999-2002) in town at Leo Burnett USA as an account supervisor.
A 1996 graduate with distinction from Yale University, Tym was a member of the women's soccer and squash teams.
