Cambridge, Mass. - The UIC men's gymnastics team captured five of six event titles en route to winning its debut at the New England Invitational on Saturday night.
Out of seven teams, UIC took first place honors scoring a season-high 347.900. Springfield College placed second (331.150) and host MIT came in third (325.600), rounding out the top three finishes.
The Flames were impressive as five different gymnasts took home event titles.
Out of 23 gymnasts, Anthony May earned the top spot and won his third all-around crown of the season with an impressive 87.150, besting his previous all-around high score by two points.
May also added another first-place finish on the vault with a season-best score of 15.250.
Ben Sinor garnered his first event title of the season, winning the floor exercise crown with a season-best score of 14.850. Sinor's high score on the floor was the team's highest this year.
Neal Thompson continued to shine on the pommel horse, capturing the title with a season-best score of 14.650.
Nikolai Korepanov and Nick Persino recorded identical scores of 14.600 to win the parallel and high bar titles. Persino's score was a season-best and his first title for the red and blue faithful.
Springfield's Matthew Bolognese picked up the lone title on the still rings posting a 15.250.
Other notable performances for the Flames included three runner-up finishes for Jeffrey Bill. The junior was solid on the night with high scores on the floor exercise (14.350), vault (15.400), and parallel bars (14.550).
Arguably UIC's best team performance of the year, the Flames tallied a remarkable 23 top-five finishes in all six combined events.
UIC will take a week off in preparation for the ECAC Championships in West Point, N.Y. on April 4 and 5.
