Chicago, Ill. - UIC junior Anthony May (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) earned College Gymnastics Association Men's NCAA National Gymnast of the Week, the CGA announced on Thursday.
May was also honored as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Gymnast of the Week.
May captured his third-all around of the season with an impressive 87.150 at the New England Invitational at MIT on Saturday. He surpassed his previous best all-around score by 1.55 points (85.600).
The co-captain took first place honors on the vault with a season-best score of 15.250. He also managed to place second on the still rings (14.800) and third on the high bar (14.400).
May's efforts also guided UIC to its highest team score of the season with a 347.9.
This is the first time in school history that any UIC gymnast has been awarded the National Gymnast of the Week honor.
It also marks May's second ECAC honor of the season.
May and the UIC men's gymnastics team will be back in action at the ECAC Championships on April 4 and 5 in West Point, N.Y.
