Men's Gymnastics Takes Third At 2008 ECAC Championships

West Point, N.Y. - The UIC men's gymnastics team came away with a third place finish in one of the closest meets of the season at the 2008 ECAC Championships on Friday night.

The Flames posted a final team score of 340.900. Temple came away with their second consecutive ECAC title edging William & Mary 341.450-341.350. Navy, Springfield College, and MIT rounded out the field.

Anthony May led UIC with a runner-up performance in the all-around scoring a combined 85.350. May also shared the still rings title with William & Mary's James Prim with a career-best score of 15.250.

In his first ECAC Championship debut, young Neal Thompson ended the night with a third place finish in the all-around with a season-best 84.250. Thompson also tied for second on the parallel bars with Temple's Pat McLaughlin scoring a 14.400.

Joining Thompson with his first championship appearance was David Mohr, who earned himself a third place finish on the pommel horse with a 13.850.

On the vault, Jeffrey Bill and Bobby Solomon scored identical scores of 15.400 to finish tied for fourth place.

Andrew Stover also showed well for the Flames placing behind Thompson in the all-around standings (84.200). Stover managed to place fifth on the high bar (14.00) and on the still rings (14.450).

Other notable performances included a third and fourth place finish for Nikolai Korepanov (14.650) and Alex Kadar (14.600) on the still rings.

UIC will return to competition tomorrow with the ECAC Individual Championships at 7 p.m from West Point.
