DETROIT - The UIC men's tennis team returned to action on Saturday evening in Detroit, defeating the newest member of the Horizon League at the Franklin Athletic Club.
The Flames (6-4, 2-0 Horizon) won at first and second doubles behind strong play with George Hudson and Sebastian Lystad defeating Pjotrs Necajevs and Dustin Goldenberg, 9-7 at No. 1 and Bastian Harbo and Dave Robare beating Stabley and McCathney, 8-5 at second doubles.
With the doubles point in hand, UIC claimed singles victories behind Lystad at No. 2, Adriano Liccardo playing at No. 4, Hudson at No. 5 and Nate Kirk at No. 6 to close out the 5-2 victory.
Detroit is in its first season as a varsity team since the program was discontinued 14 years ago.
UIC returns to action on Monday, March 23 when they head to Davidson in North Carolina.
