Linda Hricistova Named Horizon League Player Of The Week

Feb. 1, 2011

Chicago- UIC women's tennis junior Linda Hricistova was named Horizon League Player of the Week for the period ending Jan 30, the league office announced on Tuesday.

"Linda has done a great job for us so far this season," said head coach Shannon Tully. "She has made a big impact on our doubles team, while also producing consistent wins in the singles line up. She stepped up and got wins for us when we really needed them against Toledo".

The Zlin, Czech Republic native recorded a 2-0 mark for the Flames on their home court against Toledo on Saturday.

In doubles play, the junior paired up with Mariya Kovaleva to claim an 8-2 victory over Toledo's Polina Guimaraes and Alexandra Cristello.

Hricistova recorded a win at the No. 6 singles position; she defeated Toledo's Rocio Benavent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to earn another point for the Flames in a convincing fashion.

This is the first time Hricistova has received the honor, because she is a Georgia State transfer for UIC this year.

Hricistova and the Flames will travel to take on Big Ten opponent Wisconsin, Saturday, Feb 5, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium beginning at 3 p.m. CST.
