Men's Gymnastics To Face Hawkeyes

Jan. 27, 2012

CHICAGO - The UIC men's gymnastics team (1-5) continues its season Saturday against 14th-ranked Iowa (0-6) at 5:00 p.m. inside the Physical Education Building in Chicago, Ill.

"Saturday's competition is going to be a great one," head coach Charley Nelson said. "UIC beat Iowa at the Windy City Invitational a couple of weeks ago, and I am looking for the Flames to make it a season sweep. I predict an evenly matched competition that won't be decided until the final rotation. The UIC fans should be in for a treat, and it's always great to be competing at home with our loud and supportive fans."

The Saturday meeting marks the second time this season UIC faces the Hawkeyes as Iowa notched a sixth-place finish (316.800) at the Windy City Invitational, while UIC finished in fifth place with 327.200 points.

The Flames return to action after dropping 339.400-321.300 to the Golden Gophers (Jan. 21) inside the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. Junior Dan Zerbel (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) posted the top overall score in the floor routine with a 15.300, while also claiming the top UIC score in the parallel bars with a 14.700 and the high bars with a 13.800.

Zerbel's performance against Minnesota earned him the honor of being named the ECAC Rookie of the Week.
