CHICAGO - Senior volleyball player Janise Dismuke has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 1-7. Dismuke took home the Horizon League's Offensive Player of the Week award for her efforts in last week's wins over Eastern Illinois, Green Bay and Milwaukee as the team is now in sole possession of third place in the conference standings with a record of 4-2.
The middle hitter totaled an impressive .521 hitting percentage in the three-game span with a 4.00 kills-per-set average. Against EIU last Wednesday, Dismuke etched her name into the UIC records book with a single-game attacking percentage of .812 (13-0-16), ranking as the third-highest in program history and a new personal best. The Peoria, Ill., native has now posted a hitting percentage of .400 or higher in four consecutive matches.
The UIC volleyball team travels north this Friday to cross-town rival Loyola for a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CT. The Ramblers are tied for first in the Horizon League with a conference record of 5-1 and an overall mark of 13-6.
Dismuke is now the only Flames' student-athlete to win the award twice after claiming the accolade on Sept. 12. Of the seven awards handed out so far this season, four of them have been given to volleyball players.
