CHICAGO - The UIC men's gymnastics team (1-7) continues its season Saturday against 11-ranked Temple (9-1) and Springfield College (4-7) at 6:30 p.m. (CT) inside McGongile Hall in Philadelphia, Pa.
"The men's team is returning to action after its best competition of the season," head coach Charley Nelson said. "Certainly, our season-high score showed that, but beyond the statistics, the team really fought for every tenth of a point. This team is close, and I can't overstate the importance of team work in NCAA gymnastics. The mentality of the team is going to need to be abundant as we travel to Temple this weekend to compete inside McGonicle Hall, where this season's ECAC Championship will be held. We will be looking to use Lukasz Adamczyk's school record pommel horse score, 15.1, as a launching pad for continued improvement, as well as leadership of junior captain Dan Zerbel, who is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA on the floor exercise."
The Flames return to action after dropping 339.000-329.300 to Illinois (Feb. 11) inside Huff Hall in Champaign, Ill. The team topped Illinois in two of the six events, posting top scores in the vault and pommel horse.
Sophomore, Lukasz Adamczyk (Deerfield, Ill./Stevenson) claimed the pommel horse and a school record with a 15.00. On vault, Justin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Park District) and Aaron Eyster (Rochelle, Ill./Bartlett Gymnastics) posted a 14.400, leading UIC to victory with the overall best score in the event.
