Dan Zerbel Sets School Record

CHICAGO - Dan Zerbel (Portage, Mich./Kalamazoo School of Gymnastics), who ranks fifth nationally in the floor exercise, set a school record in the event as the junior posted a 15.6 to begin the meet against Stanford Sunday inside the Physical Education Building in Chicago, Ill. The Cardinal defeated UIC in a 355.5-337.8 outcome.

The Flames opened the meet on the floor exercise, where the squad totaled 58 points to Stanford's 60.7. Zerbel's school-record performance was the highlight for UIC as the No. 1 ranked Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) led all competitors with his 15.6 score.

Moving onto the pommel horse, eighth-ranked Lukasz Adamczyk (Deerfield, Ill./Stevenson) led the Flames with a 14.8, while finishing third overall. The Cardinal took the top two spots in the event to post a 59.1, while the Flames posted 56.9 points.

Justin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Park District) posted a 14.9 on the rings to finish the event first for the Flames and third overall. David Ishida (Woodridge, Calif./Technique), who ranks fifth in the ECAC, earned a 14.7 to place fifth overall. As a team, UIC compiled a 58.1 to Stanford's 60.6.

UIC was on the vault during the fourth rotation and the squad posted a 56.0. The Flames were led by Brett Valin (Chicago, Ill./Ultimate Gymnastics) and Aaron Eyster (Rochelle, Ill./Bartlett Gymnastics), with 14.2 scores, while Stanford took the top-three spots and compiled a 58.4 team score.

During the final rotations the Flames competed on the parallel bars and high bars, where the team totaled 55.4 and 53.4 points, respectively to conclude the dual meet.

The Flames return to action in a dual meet with Michigan Saturday at 6:00 p.m., it will be the second time this season the two teams have met.
