CHICAGO - Dan Zerbel placed first on parallel bars, while finishing second on the floor exercise Saturday as the men's gymnastics team faced California in Berkeley, Calif., where the team fell 347.750-328.700 to the Golden Bears.

"We were outmatched tonight at Cal," head coach Charley Nelson said. "We were able to show off some competition, while enjoying support from some Bay Area UIC alumni. As a team, we had a great start on pommel horse as we hit all of our six sets. We stayed close through three events, but Cal's depth on vault, parallel bars and high bar was a challenge. As our young talent continues to develop, I am looking forward to returning for a rematch."

Zerbel posted a 14.700 on parallel bars to lead all competitors, while notching a 14.800 on the floor exercise for a second-place finish.

In addition to Zerbel's first- and second-place finishes, Lukasz Adamczyk placed second on the pommel horse with a 14.800 to the No. 1 ranked competitor in the nation, Glen Ishino.

The Flames return to action against Air Force Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. (CT) and 2:00 p.m., respectively
