Men's Gymnastics Wraps Competition With Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following a tough loss to No. 11 Air Force on Friday, March 4, the UIC men's gymnastics team returned on Sunday to face the Falcons in a re-match at Cadet West Gym, but fell in a close 337.300-332.400 decision after Dan Zerbel (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) and Brett Valin (Chicago, Ill./Lakes Community) put up top performances for the Flames.

UIC came back with improved scores on the floor, vault, and parallel bars after suffering a 338.900-329.500 loss against the Air Force on Friday.

Producing first-place finishes on the day, Zerbel came away on the floor exercise with a meet-best 15.200, while Valin tied with the Falcon's Devin Meneflee for first on the vault with 14.700.

Junior Justin Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Agricultural) held the best score on the rings for the Flames, coming in a tie for second with 14.500, as Joseph Hodges (Webster, N.Y./Webster Christian) also tied for second on the pommel horse with 13.900 and produced bests for UIC on the parallel bars (14.000) and horizontal bars (13.600).

The Flames return to competition on Sunday, March 11, when they host Stanford at 1 p.m. (CT) inside the UIC Physical Education Building.
