Men's Gymnastics To Compete With No. 3 Michigan

March 22, 2013

CHICAGO - After capturing an upset win over No. 13 Temple on March 17, the UIC men's gymnastics team prepares to take on No. 3 Michigan at 6 p.m. (CT) Saturday at Cliff Keen Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Flames previously faced the Wolverines on Jan. 19 at the Windy City Invitational.

In UIC's 412.550-407.650 win over Temple, Dan Zerbel, Joseph Hodges, Bryan Pusateri and Brett Valin came away with the top scores for the Flames, as the team outscored the Owls on four-of-six events.

Zerbel brought in a pair of first-place finishes on floor (15.200) and parallel bars (14.650), while taking second on horizontal bar (13.900).

Hodges brought in first place on pommel horse with a score of 14.150 and captured the all-around with a final total of 83.200.

Pusateri recorded a 14.150 on rings for third place, as Valin came in with second on vault with 14.500.

While ranked No. 3 as a team, Michigan is No. 1 on vault, No. 2 on floor and parallel bars, No. 3 on rings, No. 5 on pommel horse and No. 9 on horizontal bar. The Wolverines are 9-2 this season, but are coming off of their two losses against Oklahoma and Penn State.

At the Windy City Invitational in January, Michigan came away with the title for first place ahead of the six competing teams after posting a score of 431.300. The Wolverines season-high score sits at 446.150.
