CHICAGO - Men's gymnast Joseph Hodges has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of April 15-21 as announced by the athletic department on Wednesday morning. The junior took home ninth place in the all-around competition at the 2013 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships this past Saturday in University Park, Pa. His ninth-place showing is the highest ever finish for the UIC program.
Hodges garnered a score of 82.750 total points, while posting marks of 14.100 on floor, 13.550 on pommel horse, 13.750 on rings, 13.850 on vault, 13.500 on parallel bars and 14.000 on horizontal bar.
The Webster, N.Y., native becomes the second men's gymnast to earn the UICFlames.com award this season as sophomore teammate Brett Valin collected the honor on Feb. 27.
