CHICAGO- The UIC men's gymnastics team closed their season out at home honoring their four seniors, Lukasz Adamczyk, Joseph Hodges, Jacob Mager and Lance Ridenoure, at the conclusion of the meet. The Flames fell short to the Hawkeyes, 431.400-409.900.
"We achieved a season high score today, which is fantastic considering eight of our 15 guys are first year competitors. We are seeing a steady climb and they are getting used to college level competition," stated head coach Charley Nelson.
Lukasz Adamczyk dominated on the pommel horse, taking first by .550 with a score of 14.650.
Jason Gaides was best on vault with a score of 14.550. He also scored highest for UIC on floor exercise and parallel bars taking fifth in both with final scores of 14.250 and 14.200, respectively.
Gaides and Trent Jarrett tied for sixth on rings, both scoring 14.150. Joseph Hodges' score of 13.800 put him in sixth on horizontal bar.
Gaides (83.950), Hodges (80.950) and Christopher Root (79.650) each competed in all-around competition finishing second, third and fourth, respectively.
"Our seniors got the job done today as well. Joseph [Hodges] and Lukasz [Adamczyk] both nailed their sets. If we continue this, we will finish this season right where we want to be, right in the mix of the ECAC Championship," added Nelson.
The Flames return to competition when they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. for back-to-back meets with Air Force Academy on Friday, Feb. 28 (8 p.m. CT) and Sunday, March 2 (2 p.m.) at the Cadet Field House.
