Final Results
CHICAGO - The UIC men's gymnastics team concluded action at the 45th Annual Windy City Invitational Saturday at the UIC Pavilion. UIC finished the night with 388.400 points and Illinois placed first with a score of 428.100.
"We had an incredible crowd and atmosphere," said head coach Charley Nelson. "UIC is the envy of the Big Ten teams with the greatest competition venue in the NCAA."
Senior Brett Valin was presented with the Edward J. Saleh Memorial Award and Scholarship in front of approximately 2,180 fans. The honor is given to a UIC senior gymnast who best exemplifies academic and athletic excellence representing the UIC men's gymnastics program.
Valin tied for fourth overall in vault with a score of 14.850, placing seventh in the all-around (78.050). Valin also competed on horizontal bar, leading UIC in scoring with a 13.150.
Jason Gaides finished fifth overall on all-around (81.200) and tied for fifth on parallel bars with a score of 14.350. Meanwhile, Alexander Dumstorf recorded a score of 14.000 on floor and 13.200 on parallel bars.
"Overall we are very happy with the progress, next week we travel to Iowa," said Nelson. "It is going to be another battle and our first test on the road, but we are looking forward to it and looking forward to where our team can be."
The Flames return to action Saturday (Jan. 24) when they travel to Iowa City to compete against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
