CHICAGO - UIC gymnast Jason Gaides prepares for competition at the second annual 2015 Winter Cup Challenge. Competition will be held from Feb. 19-21 at the Riviera Hotel and Casino's Royale Pavilion in Las Vegas.

Gaides is one of 100 gymnasts set to compete in the three-day event. He will be alongside six members of the U.S. Men's Team that won the team bronze medal at the 2014 World Championships in China.

"We are all proud of Jason for qualifying to this prestigious event," said head coach Charley Nelson. "I think it really solidifies his position as a potential Nissen-Emery Award Finalist."

Gaides was recently named the Corvias ECAC Men's Gymnast of the Week, for the week of Feb. 8-15. The accolade is the third weekly ECAC honor of Gaides' UIC career.

"There is a preliminary competition on Thursday afternoon (1 p.m. local) and a final on Saturday evening 7 p.m.," said Nelson. "Jason is a great all around competitor and he stands right among the nation's elite gymnasts. He is especially competitive on floor exercise, rings and pommel horse."

Last weekend, Gaides led the Flames as they defeated Temple with a season high score of 409.650. Gaides notched top-scores on floor (14.950) and pommel horse (14.700). He also recorded competitive scores on rings (13.900), vault (14.050) and parallel bars (13.650).

Gaides is currently ranked ninth in the nation in all-around competition, averaging a score 82.570. His season high score of 84.100 came against Iowa (Jan. 24).
