Men's Gymnastics Falls to Air Force

CHICAGO - The UIC men's gymnastics team hosted Air Force at the UIC Pavilion Sunday afternoon. The Flames finished the day falling short to the Falcons, 416.250-408.250.

"We were happy with today, these guys should be proud of themselves because they did good work," said head coach Charley Nelson.

The Flames began competition on the floor exercise as Jacob Thurber notched a top score of 14.550. Thurber also collected the highest score on vault with a 14.650.

Teammate Jason Gaides tied Air Force's Tim Wang for second-place on floor with a score of 14.500. Gaides finished the day with an All-Around score of 85.000. He recorded top team scores on pommel horse (14.350) and rings (14.200).

Brett Valin collected top scores for the Flames on high-bar, parallel bars and a competitive score on rings. Valin recorded 13.700 on high-bar, a 13.950 on parallel bars and a score of 14.000 on rings. He recorded an all-around score of 82.350.

The Flames return to action when they welcome Stanford and Arizona State to the UIC Pavilionon Sunday(March 8).

"Next week, we will host Stanford who is sitting as No. 2 in the Nation, and Arizona State, who will definitely give us a challenge on our senior day as we honor five of our seniors," said Nelson.
