CHICAGO - The UIC men's gymnastics team makes its way to New York to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. The event is hosted by West Point Friday and Saturday (March 27-28) inside Gross Sports Center.
The team championship and all-around competition gets underway Friday at 4 p.m. CT, with individual competition scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Flames will be competing against gymnasts from Springfield College, William & Mary, Army, Navy and Temple.
At the 2014 ECAC Championships, the Flames placed sixth with a final score of 399.450. Jason Gaides finished fifth in the all-around competition with a score of 82.55. As a team, the Flames placed fourth on parallel bars with a combined score of 67.400.
In individual competition, UIC finished in the top-six in four of the six events. Gaides' score on rings (14.800) was good for second overall. He also tied for fifth on floor exercise with a final score of 14.200. Senior Brett Valin recorded a score of 14.600 on vault and placed fourth in the event.
The Flames competed at No. 4 Michigan last weekend and fell to the Wolverines, 443.150 - 401.750. Gaides placed second in the all-around competition with a total score of 82.000.
