NORMAN, Okla. - UIC gymnasts Alexander Dumstorf, Trent Jarrett, Jacob Thurber, Jason Gaides and Brett Valin brought the 2014-15 season to a close at the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center.
In all-around competition, Gaides finished with an 81.600 good for sixth-place. He also recorded UIC's highest score on floor exercise with a 14.300 and a score of 13.500 on pommel horse.
Valin collected UIC's top score on horizontal bars recording a mark of 13.400. He tallied 78.000 points in all-around competition, finishing in ninth-place.
"Our two seniors, Jason Gaides and Brett Valin, could not have had better careers in terms of what they brought to the table at UIC," said UIC head coach Charley Nelson. "I hope to have athletes like them in the future."
Dumstorf completed competition on floor exercise notching a score of 13.600. Jarrett competed on rings collecting a score of 13.150. On vault, Thurber came away with a team-best score of 14.250.
While the Flames have ended their run at the NCAAs, the final day of competition concludes Saturday.
"Our future athletes are Trent Jarrett, Alex Dumstorf and Jacob Thurber," said Nelson. "They all had a pretty good day of competition, but we are building towards the future in hopes of returning to the NCAA Championships next year."
