CHICAGO -- The UIC men's tennis team (6-10, 2-2 HL) hosted Valparaiso (19-5, 3-1 HL) Sunday afternoon at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. Despite losing their top singles winner (Louis Theodor) to an injury on Saturday, the Flames forced three singles matches into three sets before falling to the Crusaders by a 5-2 score.
Christopher Cole and Mitch Granger competed against Valparaiso's Lucas Waak and Brian Hickey at the No. 3 doubles position and defeated the duo, 7-5, for the Flames' lone doubles victory. The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker as Isaac Lloveras and Carl Hedstrom dropped a close match at the No. 1 spot by a 7-6 score.
"The No. 3 doubles duo had a nice win and went 2-0 during competition this weekend," said UIC head coach Hans Neufeld.
In singles play, Carl Hedstrom collected a three-set win, defeating Garrett Gardner 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Maurizio Feoli collected UIC's second victory in dual play, dominating his opponent Kyle Dunn, 6-4, 6-4.
The Flames return to action on April 18 as they travel to Ohio to take on Horizon League rival Youngstown State (7-10, 3-0 HL). Competition is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT at the Boardman Tennis Center.
