CHICAGO - The College Gymnastics Association (CGA) recently announced that eight members of the UIC men's gymnastics team have been named All-America Scholar-Athletes. The 2015 Flames were additionally recognized as a whole with an honorable mention as one of the top academic teams in the nation.
Japheth Grimes earned his first accolade as he represented UIC on the first team with a GPA between 3.7 and 3.799 for the 2014-15 academic year. Travis Burke and Jason Gaides earned their second career nods by placing on the second team along with first-time recipients Michael Brackmann, Keith Kohn, Brett Valin, Christopher Root and Scott Poort.
The CGA honored 65 individual gymnasts as 2015 first team All-America Scholar-Athletes in men's gymnastics for attaining at least a 3.50 grade point average. Sixty-three 63 second team All-America Scholar-Athletes were awarded for holding a grade point average between 3.2 and 3.499.
Burke, Gaides, Grimes, Kohn, Root and Valin were additionally recognized for academic excellence at the conclusion of the competitive season with placement on the ECAC All-Academic Team.
