Flames Fall Short Against Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio- Inside the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium, the UIC Flames swam against the Cleveland State Vikings. The women's team notched a victory over the Vikings 198.5-101.5. The men's team fell short, 172-128.

The women's team totaled 11 individual wins and were paced by Hines, who totaled three victories. Freshman Lexie Joy and sophomore Sophia Shalabi each notched two victories apiece. Hines captured the 1000 free (10:20.70), 500 free (4:57.80), and 200 IM (2:05.51). Joy touched first in the 200 free (1:53.55) and 100 free (51.96). Shalabi grabbed wins in the 200 breast (2:21.94) and 100 breast (1:04.69).

In the 100 back, the Flames finished one-two-three led by junior Erin Sivak, who touched first with a time of 59.40. Senior Jocelyn Langballe finished second (59.79) and freshman Hannah Olsen locked up third place (1:00.36).

Senior Katherine Hare was victorious in the 50 free with a time of 24.80 and senior Danel Voorhees notched first in the 100 fly (58.66). Olsen eanred first in the 200 back (2:07.79) just out touching Langballe, who finished with a time of 2:08.21 for second place.

Sophomore Rachel Criscione led the way for the Flames on the boards notching a pair of second place finishes with scores of 241.95 in the three-meter dive and 232.20 in the one-meter.

On the men's side, senior Kei Ishimaru touched first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:49.22. Ishimaru also grabbed a second place finish in the 100 fly (50.20). In the 100 breast, senior Shaun Seuschek grabbed first posting a time of 59.09 and sophomore Tanner Alms notched a first place finish in the 1000 free (9:45.89).

Junior Nicholas Kowaleski finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.52 and 100 free (46.49). Senior Christian Grobe grabbed second place in the 200 breast posting a time of 2:10.46.

Junior Tyler Pastore finished first in the three-meter dive with a score of 309.23 and senior Mark Ciesielski earned second in the one-meter dive posting a score of 279.38.

The Flames are back in the pool next Saturday, Jan. 23 as they host Olivet Nazarene. The meet begins at 12:00 PM CT.
