CHICAGO - In a crosstown rivalry match on Friday night, the UIC men's tennis team (0-2) came up short in its efforts as it fell to DePaul, 6-1, at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
The Blue Demons took the first point after sweeping doubles. Christopher Cole and Mitch Granger fell at No. 1, 6-4, while Carl Hedstrom and Marcelo Dib in addition to Andy Page and Max Cederkall were defeated in 6-3 decisions at No. 2 and 3, respectively.
Into singles, Cederkall claimed the Flames' lone win of the night and his second of the dual season when he took down Tim Corwin, 6-4, 6-3, while positioned at No. 5.
Having suffered straight-set losses at No. 1-4, Dib put his best effort forward and went to three sets at No. 6, but eventually went down, 7-6 (2), 4-6, 10-4, to Jan-Willem Feilzer.
UIC will return to action next Friday (Jan. 29) when it heads to the western suburbs for a neutral-site matchup against Northern Illinois in Aurora, Ill., at noon CT.
