CHICAGO- UIC gymnast Jacob Thurber has been named ECAC Gymnast of the Week, while teammate Wes Diveney has earned Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference Tuesday morning. Both gymnasts gave solid performances for the Flames against No. 10 Iowa last weekend.
The Knoxville, Tenn. native tied for team best on the pommel horse with a 13.25, setting a personal record on that event. In addition, Thurber finished fourth on floor with a 14.15 and notched a 13.20 on vault. On parallel bars, the junior tallied a 12.950 for the Flames and concluded the evening by setting a personal best on high bar with a 12.100.
A freshman from Naperville, Ill., Diveney set personal records in each of his three events; 12.70 on rings, 13.85 on vault and 11.80 on the high bar.
Thurber, Diveney and the Flames return to competition on Feb. 6 against Illinois at Huff Hall in Champaign. Competition is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. (CT).
