EVANSTON, Ill. - The UIC men's tennis team (3-5) competed against Northwestern (10-1) Sunday evening and suffered a 4-0 defeat at the Combe Tennis Center.

"We came out with good energy in doubles and got into the matches," said head coach Hans Neufeld. "I was pleased with the effort."

In doubles, Carl Hedstrom and Marcelo Dib competed against Mihir Kumar and Alp Horoz and fell 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Andy Page and Nate Campanile went up against Konrad Zieba and Michael Lorenzini at No. 3 and were defeated by a score of 6-4. Mitch Granger and Christopher Cole faced off against Fedor Baev and Strong Kirchheimer, with the match going unfinished.

Hedstrom competed against (No. 14) Konrad Zieba in the No. 1 singles spot, but ultimately fell by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Despite his best effort, Andy Page dropped his No. 3 match to (No. 77) Baev, 6-2, 6-1. Max Cederkall battled with Mihir Kumar at No. 6 but fell by a score of 6-0, 6-1.

Meanwhile Cole faced (No. 57) Kirchheimer, but left his match unfinished, 6-2, 2-2. Granger and Dib each left their singles matches unfinished at the No. 4 (6-3, 1-2) and No. 5 (6-3, 2-0) positions.

The Flames return to action Saturday, Feb. 27 when they travel to East Lansing, Mich. to face Michigan State.
